3/29/2013Brewery Expansion Progress - If you've been following the media, our Facebook, or our blog, or stopping by the Tap Room, you know about our coming expansion. In fact, just before New Years, we were able to remove 3 houses on Thomas Street, close off portions of Thomas and St. Paul Streets, bury the utility lines, and pour the foundations for our new building. During February and March you began to see the building take shape.
Last Friday, the building was closed in and heat was introduced to thaw the floor in preparation for pouring concrete. As this is going on, we are talking with our brewery manufacturer about their progress in building the equipment and preparing plans for wider distribution of beers beyond the Wausau area.
Our plans currently call for having all of these things come together in early August. Join our "sidewalk superintendents" watch the progress. In this case however, they are "taproom superintendents" because they can watch the progress through the windows while enjoying a brew. Prost!

(read more) 12/21/2012Bull Falls Expansion Project - If you haven't figured it out by now, the wall rising from the ground just north of the Bull Falls Tap Room is the foundation of the new expanded Bull Falls Brewery scheduled to be built in the first half of 2013. The need for the expansion is a result of the enthusiastic acceptance of Bull Falls brews by the people of Wausau and surrounding communities. All of us here at Bull Falls appreciate the acceptance and support, and we thank all of our customers for it.
The popularity of Bull Falls beers has caused us to reach the capacity of our existing brewery, a pub-style system, designed for on-premise serving. The planned, new brew system is a production brewery designed to produce larger quantities of high quality craft beer to be distributed over a wider area.
The expansion is an undertaking of the Zamzow families, owners of the existing brewery and tap room, with the help and support of Wisconsin Business Development, the River Valley Bank, McDevCo, the City of Wausau, and Wanta & Son, Inc., general contractor.
The project includes a 8000 square foot building on the north side of the existing facility adjacent to the Tap Room. It will include a gift shop for branded souvenirs, glassware, and apparel. Just to the west of the building there will be a 55-car parking lot, something badly needed. The building will house a state-of-the-art German-style brew system capable of brewing high quality lagers and ales, as well as a canning line. There will be a mill room and cool room to store kegs and package goods prior to shipping.
Because of the rush to get approvals and concrete work finished before the winter, we did not have a proper ground-breaking ceremony. But never fear, we'll have something fun and exciting including a possible cornerstone laying complete with time capsule and of course an open house with brews. food, and music as only Bull Falls Brewery can do it. 11/23/2012Bull Falls Beer News... - Going on now at the Bull Falls Tap Room, while they last, are this year's fresh wet-hops beers. This is a cooperative effort between some members of the Wisconsin Brewer's Guild and Wisconsin Hops Co-op members. They all joined together on "harvest" day, gathered up their share of the hops, and went back home to brew their own distinctive fresh hops brew. Here at Bull Falls we named it Bull Falls Hopworthy. The hops was grown by Jonathon Wokatsch of Wokatsch Farms in the Town of Stettin. It's available now in the Tap Room, both on tap and in the new 22 oz. "Bombers" which also can be purchased at some local groceries.
One more final 2012 Oktoberfest brew has just been released this week, after many, many requests. It definitely is one of the most popular of our seasonals.
Don't forget, long awaited 2012 Midnight Star, "the dark beer with the blond soul" will debut on Tuba Christmas day in the Bull Falls Tap Room on December 8th, 2012 starting at 12:00 noon!
11/3/2012Bull Falls Brewery Anticipates Approval of Expansion Project - To keep all of our web-based followers informed, we want to let you in on some very exciting news for us and Bull Falls Brewery beer lovers. We are planning a major expansion of our brewery. All the plans are complete and while all the final approvals for the City requirements and for the financing have not been given, we are anticipating these approvals to be granted on November 13, 2012. Then, depending upon the weather, we could conceivably still begin the project this fall. We are letting you know this before final approval because this information has already been published in local TV, radio and print media as well. We hope to be able to report positive, definite plans within a week or two.
The plans call for adding a 8000 sq. ft. addition on to our existing facility to the north over a portion of St. Paul street which will be vacated, and to the west including a 50 car parking lot over a portion of East Thomas Street, also to be vacated. It will house a brand new production brewery with capacity to allow us to expand our reach beyond Wausau and to off-premise outlets with packaged products. The expansion will also include a gift shop for Bull Falls related merchandise and staging area for tours which will become regular weekly events. When we get the absolute final go-ahead, we will publish more details and images.
8/2/2012Opti-Lager Here - Bull Falls Summer Fest Beer, aka Opti-Lager, has been released in our Tap Room and is now being served in the Wausau Noon Optimist Beer Tent at the Wisconsin Valley Fair. Opti-Lager is a summer seasonal, golden in color, light in body, very smooth and easy to enjoy. All German hops used, complement the light Pilsner malts in this beer.
