November 16, 2011 - Rumor has it that following the German a Brewing adventure tour, a mysterious new beer is brewing in one of the fermenters at Bull Falls... Rauchbier. What is Rauchbier? The Rauchbier style is an old German beer style, its origins go back to the 1500's and to the district of Franconia and the town of Bamberg. It's typically of dark colour and has similarities of the Oktoberfestbier. Green malts are literally dried over an open fire of beech wood, imparting a unique smokiness ("rauch" is German for smoke), the usage of which produces beers of an acquired taste. Imagine a smokiness so robust, so assertive, that it tastes of spiced, smoked meat (Beer Advocate). We'll see if we can shed more light on this soon.

It all started by buying 3 oak barrels, slightly used one time by the Jack Daniels Distillery. The barrels were then conditioned with a little Jack Daniels and carefully rolled once per day until ready. Then the famous Oat Meal Stout of the Bull Falls Brewery was brewed with the characteristic full-bodied, full-flavored, smooth taste. The brew was transferred to the barrels to be tenderly aged for 45 days and the result is the famous Bull Falls Oatmeal Stout with the carmel, chocolate, and coffee flavors, and with just a hint of Old No.7 "Jack".
