4th Annual Sid Kyler River Valley Jazz Fest

Annual festival celebrating jazz featuring both local and headliner jazz artists, benefiting students with scholarships to study jazz.

Friday and Saturday, July 25-26th, 2014

Bigger and better than ever! That's this year's edition of the Sid Kyler River Valley Jazz Fest at the Bull Falls Brewery Tap Room and Biergarten Tent. The goal of this event is to promote jazz music in our area and to raise money for scholarships for prospective Jazz students.

It all begins Friday afternoon at 4:00 with the Denise Sauter Quintet in the Biergarten, new this year, and S & T duo in the Tap Room at 4:30. And back by popular request. At 5:00 pm the 2510 Restaurant will begin serving Grilled Fish Plates for as long as they last. Note the band lineup in the left side column. Programs will also be available at the event to help you keep track of your favorite groups.

The Dave Stoler Quintet, popular midwest jazz performer from Madison, will be the headliner event at our fest this year. Having played professionally for over 25 years, Dave Stoler is one of the busier professional musicians in the midwest. A native of Madison, Wisconsin, he currently splits his time between many musical projects. He received a Master of Music degree from the University of Miami-Coral Gables in Jazz Performance, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk Piano Competition and the American Jazz Piano Competition.

Also new this year will be Tim Buchholz and his Quartet featuring Chris Salerno. There will be traditional Dixieland groups as well as a couple of large Swing Bands including the John Greiner Swing Shift. Sid Kyler's own Dixieland Band will close out the schedule on Friday night.

Jazz member volunteers will greet attendees and welcome them to the fest and place wristbands for those people wishing to enjoy the Bull Falls Brews or wine. Soda and water will also be available. At the entrance there will be a voluntary 5.00 donation jar, the proceeds of which will also go towards the jazz scholarships. The annual printed commemorative pint glass available for purchase. This year again, it will come with a fill of beer. All of these donations are greatly appreciated by the Jazz Society and the students who will be receiving the scholarships.

Door prizes of gift certificates and a pair of Green Bay Packer games will be drawn.

This is the only event of this type in the Wausau area and has become a tradition, this being the 5th annual event. Each year the number of students receiving $500.00 scholarship has increased over the previous year. We're expecting to do it again this year. Come on down to the Bull Falls Brewery for an enjoyable time.
